Frequently asked questions
We know that reaching out for support can come with questions or uncertainty. Our FAQ section is designed to provide clear, transparent information about what to expect, how counselling works, and the services we offer. It’s here to help you feel informed, reassured, and supported as you consider taking the next step
What issues can counselling help with?
Counselling can support a range of concerns including:
- Anxiety and stress
- Trauma and PTSD
- Domestic and family violence recovery
- Grief and loss
- Depression and low mood
- Relationship difficulties
- Life transitions and overwhelm
How do I know if I need counselling?
Many people seek counselling when they feel overwhelmed, stressed, or are struggling to cope, but you don’t need to wait until things feel “serious enough.” Counselling can support you through difficult experiences, past or present, and help you make sense of your thoughts and emotions in a safe and supportive space. If you’re noticing ongoing distress, feeling stuck, or simply want someone to talk to without judgement, counselling can be a helpful step toward understanding, healing, and change.
Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
No referral is needed. You can book directly.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your individual needs and goals. Some people attend short-term support, while others benefit from longer-term counselling. We will review this together as we go.
What can I expect in my first counselling session?
Your first session is a chance to get to know each other in a safe and supportive space. We’ll talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you’re hoping for, and what support might look like moving forward. There is no pressure to share anything before you feel ready.
How long is each session?
Sessions are typically around 50–60 minutes.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes, counselling is confidential. What you share in sessions stays private, except in situations where there is a legal or safety obligation to disclose (such as risk of harm to yourself or others, or child protection concerns). This will always be explained clearly.
Do you offer online or phone sessions?
Yes, online and telephone counselling options may be available, depending on your preference and suitability.
What if I feel nervous about starting counselling?
That’s completely normal. Many people feel unsure or anxious before their first session. The pace is guided by you, and the focus is always on creating a safe, respectful, and supportive space.
How do I book an appointment?
